Vander Putten Stadium reimagines a former industrial site at the edge of Brussels as a mixed-use district combining sports facilities, public housing and a generous public landscape. Located between the canal, the Senne valley and the future Sennette Park, the project seeks to reconnect existing urban, ecological and social networks while opening the site to the surrounding neighbourhood.
The proposal concentrates the residential program along the western edge of the plot, preserving most of the existing trees and freeing a large central open space. This strategy increases permeability, improves rainwater management and establishes a strong relationship between the site and the future park. A network of pedestrian routes connects the different programs and reinforces the site’s role as a link between surrounding districts.
The housing is organised in a landmark tower and a linear residential block, providing a mix of social and affordable units. Generous balconies, dual orientations and shared outdoor spaces extend everyday living beyond the apartment and strengthen the relationship between residents and the landscape. The sports complex is conceived as a civic landmark along Boulevard de l’Abattoir, while community facilities and outdoor spaces are organised around a shared public realm, creating an active and accessible place for everyday life, sport and social interaction.
